Mish Mash Challenge: pink - Withering Tights

This week the theme of Kimber's Mish Mash Challenge is pink! I was feeling a little uninspired and all I could think of to go with pink were hearts or pigs. Anyway, I spotted a book on my shelf and decided to use that for pink week.

The book is Withering Tights by Louise Rennison. I adore her Georgia Nicolson series and can't wait to start this series because her books are hilarious.

On my thumb, index, and ring nails I started with 2 coats of Barry M Matt White. Once dry I taped off my thumb and index nails and painted the gaps with Mode Cosmetics Fresh Melon.

On my middle and pinky nails I used WnW Lavender Creme. I used a dotting tool and Ulta3 Black Satin to add the dotted outline.

On my ring nail I used a fine paint brush and black acrylic paint to paint the legs and cloud. I filled in the stripes using WnW Lavender Creme.

I'm happy I went with this book, the cover was a lot of fun to replicate and it reminded me that I want to start this book soon!

Finding Freia Lockhart

Last week I read two fantastic books, Finding Freia Lockhart and Freia Lockhart's Summer of Awful by Aimee Said. These books were so funny, realistic, and wonderful. I was inspired by the first book to do a bookish manicure to match.

On my thumb and index nails I started with a coat of Nubar Barricade. Then I sponged on China Glaze Elephant Walk followed by Priti NYC Lambs Ears. Once dry I used a fine brush and acrylic paint to paint the bricks.

On my middle and index nails I started with Barry M Dragonfruit. I used a dotting tool and Nubar Barricade to add the eyelets. I used white acrylic paint to add the toe of the sneakers, the shoelaces, and the dots.

On my pinky I used L.A Girl Brites Kryptonite and Ulta3 Fruit Loop.

I knew from the start that while these elements all looked good on the cover, they might not work out in manicure form, but I really wanted to include all three ideas.

Mish Mash Challenge: rainbow

It's time for another installment of the Mish Mash Challenge hosted by Kimber's Lacquer Korner.

This week the theme is rainbow and I was feeling a bit uninspired as I've already done two rainbow-ish manicures this year: a rainbow gradient and rainbow stripes.

Then I remembered the neon waterfall manicure done by Sammy at The Nailsaurus and thought I'd change it up a bit and do a pastel rainbow waterfall. And then I decided to use grey as a base.

I started with 2 coats of Zoya Dove. Then I used the following polishes for the stripes: Barry M Dragonfruit, Barry M Peach Melba, Nailt It! Bahamas, Ulta3 Corsican Rose, Ulta3 Soft Hydrangea, and Mode Luv-A-Lot.

I really should have gone with a white base as I think the pastel colours would have popped a bit more, and I think I tried to squish in too many lines, oops!

Seven Deadlies

Happy Monday, everyone!

Today I have manicure to match a new release: Seven Deadlies by Gigi Levangie. The fantastic cover was designed by Cecilia Ruiz, as well as the illustrations inside the book.

I didn't have a polish that perfectly matched the very pale yellow of the cover, but Picture Polish Nude was a close match, I used 3 coats.

For the palm tree-like designs I used green acrylic paint and a fine brush.

For Perry's plaits I used a dotting tool with black acrylic paint. I used brown acrylic paint and a fine brush to add her facial features.

For the shield/crest-like symbol I mixed up some orange which I applied with a fine brush. Once dry I added the inner white line before outlining it in green.

I'm really happy with how this turned out and there's something about this manicure that I love - I'm not sure if it's the pale base colour, or how well the colours all match, but I don't want to take this off. Covers like this make bookish manicures really fun!

The Ruby Oliver Series

Today I have a bunch of manicures to share, I did them to match a 4-book series, The Ruby Oliver series by Emily Lockhart. I was sent the first three books by a friend early last year (thanks, Magz!) and I bought the fourth book when I fell in love with the series. They are so well written, fun, and full of fantastic characters.

The first book in the series is The Boyfriend List. I started with 2 coats of Ulta3 Lily White. On each nail, apart from my ring nail, I did a half moon using Mode Cosmetics Funkadelic.

On my ring nail I painted the frog using Sinful Colors Innocent** and a fine brush. I used a dotting tool and a fine brush for his eyes and nose along with Ulta3 Black Satin

The next book is The Boy Book - again I started with Ulta3 Lily White and on each nail apart from my ring nail I did a half moon using Natio Tangerine.

On my ring nail I painted the penguin with Ulta3 Black Satin and a fine brush. I added his white chest and two dots for his eyes with Ulta3 Lily White. I painted his beak with Natio Tangerine and I added a tinge of yellow to his chest with acrylic paint.

The Treasure Map of Boys is the third book in the series. I started with Ulta3 Lily White on all my nails apart from my ring nail. On my ring nail I used 2 coats of Ulta3 Scarlet, I also used this polish to create half moons on each nail.

On my ring nail I painted the marshmallow man with white acrylic paint. I added the lolly on his head, and his smile, with orange acrylic paint. I used Ulta3 Scarlet for his nose. I used Ulta3 Exotic Canary for his buttons. I used black acrylic paint for his eyes and brown acrylic paint for his pretzel arms.

The fourth book in the series, Real Live Boyfriends, never got a cover like the ones above, instead it was part of a redesign for the whole series. I started with a base of Orly Green Apple

I painted a white cloud on the tip of each nail using Ulta3 Lily White, followed by Ulta3 Pink Hibiscus.

This was a really fun series of books to turn into manicures, and I was reminded of how much I want to re-read these books :)

The theme of the Mish Mash Challenge this week is: flower. I saw some gorgeous flower nails on instagram done by Sparrow Nails and decided to try it out..

I painted my nails with 2 coats of China Glaze Ahoy! which is a pretty pink polish with a subtle shimmer to it.

I painted the flowers using white acrylic paint and a fine brush

I hope everyone is having a good week, I'm keen to check out what everyone else did for this week!

Geometric scarf nails

Morning all and happy Friday! I thought I'd start sharing some of my non-bookish nail art on Fridays and today I want to start with some nails I did to match a scarf. I saw this scarf in a store and immediately thought the print would make for a great mani.

On my thumb I used 2 coats of Orly Liquid Vinyl. On my index and middle nails I used 2 coats of L.A Colors Color Craze Electric Shock. On my ring and pinky nails I used 2 coats of Ulta3 Pearly Grape.

Once dry I painted the lower half of middle and ring nails on the diagonal with Orly Liquid Vinyl.

Once dry I used a fine brush and CG White Out to paint the diamonds and a dotting tools for the circles.

I did these about a month ago now and I'm glad I did because it's too hot for scarves now, even light ones like this!

Mish Mash Challenge: Book - If You Find Me

This week the theme of the Mish Mash Challenge is book! I usually post a book manicure on Mondays but this week I did a second one so I had something to share today as well.

The book I chose is If You Find Me by Emily Murdoch. I received this for review and was surprised when I received a lovely hardback with a gorgeous cover. It features blue woods, a fire, and a pretty silver border.

I started by painting my nails with 2 coats of Orly La Playa

On each nail, excluding my ring nail, I used a fine brush and acrylic paint to do the trees, I mixed up two different shades of blue.

Once dry I used a fine brush and Ulta3 Glamourpuss to add the silver border around each nail.

On my ring nail I sponged the tip of my nail with Sinful Colors Pistache**. Then I painted the shape of the fire with white acrylic paint and when that was dry I painted over the white with China Glaze Glowing Orange - it's a very sheer orange and didn't really show up once I was done. Inside the orange I painted the fire with Ulta3 Glamourpuss. At the base I used yellow and white acrylic paint. For the wood I used brown acrylic paint.

This is such a beautiful cover and I have read glowing reviews so I can't wait to read it!

**This is an old bottle of polish that I have, I no longer buy the Sinful Colors brand.

All the Truth That's In Me by Julie Berry

I was feeling a little indecisive today and couldn't decide what book to choose. In the end I went with one of my new faves, All the Truth That's In Me by Julie Berry. This is such a wonderful story, I highly recommend it! I painted my nails to match the front and back covers.

I painted my thumb and pinky nails with Ulta3 Black Satin.

I painted my index, middle, and ring nails with Ulta3 Lily White. On my index nail I added a red diagonal tip.

I sponged my middle and ring nails with the Models Own Utopia followed by Zoya Dove. Then I used a fine brush and black acrylic paint to add the forest floor and the trees. On the top of each nail I sponged on Mode Cosmetics Messed Up and Nubar Barricade. I added the canopy with a fine brush and black acrylic paint.

I like this but I don't love it. I think it's because I wasn't sold on the idea of doing nail art for this cover. I much prefer the UK version, it's pretty and suits the story a lot more
